CS:GO Goes Free To Play
Last week Value, made two big announcements for their popular first person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or CS: GO. The first was the announcement that CS:GO would now be free to play. Allowing anyone to download and play CS:GO for free, having access to all game modes and matchmaking.
Players that own the paid version of CS:GO will receive “Prime Status”. The upgrade to Prime grants players access to exclusive souvenir items, item drops and weapon cases. A Loyalty Badge which can be displayed on player’s profiles is also included with prime status. Finally, prime status allows for players to match with other prime status players during matchmaking. This “prime status” can be purchased for $14.99 and is also awarded to players reaching a rank of 21.
CS:GO Battle Royale Mode
The second announcement was the release of the new CS:GO Battle Royale game mode, “Danger Zone”. This introduction of a battle royale mode as well the free to play announcement is most likely in response to the huge success of Fortnite and other battle royale games. Similarly games such as Call of Duty Black Ops 4 have introduced their own Battle Royale modes. Black Ops 4 recently introduced Backout and Battlefield V will debut its own battle royale mode called Firestorm.
In CS:GO’s battle royale, players will drop into a map titled “Blacksite” and fight against the other players to be the last man standing. Valve has detailed Players will drop into Blacksite and battle with up to 18 other players. The CS:GO Battle Royale mode uses the same in game mechanics found in previous CS: GO. Players will be equipped with a table which will allow them to order weapons, view an area map and more. Finally, Valve has stated that matches should be around 10 minutes in length.
In CS:GO Danger Zone players will earn cash by completing little side quests, opening safes and rescuing hostages. Cash is for the purchase of in game items and gear.
