Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online multiplayer first person shooter. It is the sequel to 2014’s Destiny and contains a mix game play elements from first person shooters and role playing games. Players take on the role of a Guardian who are the protectors of the Last City, the last “safe” city on Earth which has been taken over by various alien races. In Destiny 2, the Guardian’s special power know as “Light” has been stolen by an alien race called the Cabal. Players will then set out with hopes of regaining their Light and eliminating the Cabal and their leader Ghaul from Last City and Earth. The free version is known as Destiny 2: New Light. The game was released for Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will also be available on Google Stadia in late 2019.
Destiny 2 feature blends game play elements from first person shooters, massively multiplayer online games, and role playing games. The game contains two primary modes a player vs environment and player vs players. The PvE contains storyline based missions as well as co-operative missions known as strikes and raids. There is also a sandbox style free roaming element for the world which players are a part of. The PvP model includes more typical games such as objective based matches and deathmatch style games.
As with the original Destiny game, Guardians fall into one of three classes with each class having a unique set of upgrades and abilities. The classes include; Hunter, Warlock or Titan. Player characters will also advance their stats and gain more abilities by earning experience. Once players earn a certain number of experience points they will level up.
In June 2019, it was announced that Destiny 2 would become free to play starting in October 2019 to coincide with the release of the new Shadowkeep expansion. The free version of the game will be know as “First Light” and it will include all of the Year One content and expansions.
Destiny 2 free version will be available to download and install via Steam. In late 2019 it will also be available on Google Stadia and available for streaming play through Google Chrome.
